Chuck Hulse Increases His Pro FM Championship Lead
Weaver and O’Donovan in a dead heat for SFM Championship
Sonoma, CA
June 30th, 2009
This past weekend at Infineon Raceway there was a Pro Formula Mazda class double header in the Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge championship. NASCAR Sprint Cup racers had been at Infineon Raceway the previous weekend and the track was very slick from the heat and the different types of rubber. “The track is greasier than ever,” stated previous MFMC Champion Patrick O’Neill.
“I drive this track all the time and this is the slickest it’s ever been.”
O’Neill, who entered just this race and is not in the 2009 series points battle, didn’t seem to mind the slick track as he took the pole position and win on Saturday. Chuck Hulse finished in second, with Stan Kohls right in his draft taking the third spot. Kohls had fastest lap of the race on Saturday and this would also end up being the fastest time of the weekend.

Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge Mid-Season Update
Standard Mazdas come home from Mazda Raceway while Pro Mazdas head to Infineon
June 23, 2009
Sonoma, CA
The 2009 Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge season has been a wild one so far with the competitors having battled it out at Infineon Raceway, Thunderhill Raceway Park, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the chase for the title.
This past weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca the Standard Formula Mazda drivers competed for points inside of the SCCA Double Regional weekend. Race one’s podium had Bill Weaver on top, followed by Woody Yerxa. Yerxa, who has missed many of the races this season, showed everybody that he can get right back into the swing of things and he was a contender all weekend. Todd McAllister who is only running club events this season proved that he has what it takes to run with the big boys by taking the third spot on the podium.
Bill Weaver won race two. Derry O’Donovan, who was leading the championship heading into this event, took the second step. Woody Yerxa rounded out the winner’s circle with his second podium of the weekend. Updated points will be calculated once SCCA race officials post final results later this week.

Hulse Streak Ends as Guasch Returns to Claim Two Wins
Weaver and Tabak win one race each in Standard FM class
June 1st, 2009
Willows, CA
This past weekend sixteen Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge competitors travelled to Thunderhill Raceway Park to compete on the unique Llihrednuht configuration. Running the track in the clockwise direction is pretty rare, and many of the competitors had never driven this configuration. "We were able to get the competitors ninety minutes of testing with TrackMasters on Friday," mentioned Ben Hettema series official. "That really helped, but the Pro FM drivers who spent additional time this season testing on this track layout were the ones who eventually ended up on the podium."

Rain and Shine at Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge Races
Hulse wins back to back in PFM, O'Donovan and Weaver take SFM wins
March 23, 2009
Sonoma, CA
Sixteen Formula Mazdas took to the grid this weekend for races three and four of the Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge championship. The event took place at Infineon Raceway March 20th through 22nd in conjunction with the NASA Pro Racing weekend.
Qualifying and racing started on Saturday. Chuck Hulse who is leading the PFM championship took the pole position with a 1:30.678. Bill Weaver was fastest in the Standard Formula Mazda class with a 1:35.915. When the cars were on pre-grid the track was very wet and all of the PFM cars went out on rain tires. A majority of the Standard FM drivers took a chance and rolled out on slicks. That gamble paid off as the track was totally dry after a half dozen laps. The PFM drivers started to slow down as their rain tires got worn down, and the SFM drivers started to pick up speed as conditions got better. Bill Weaver turned the fastest time of the race in his SFM, but spun early in the session when the track was still wet. In the end, the race was won overall by Hulse in his PFM and Derry O'Donovan took the SFM class win.

MOLECULE Formula Mazda Challenge Kicks Off Season at Soggy Infineon Raceway
February 17, 2009.
Sonoma, CA.
Making his debut with Dave Freitas Racing,
Star Mazda Championship Masters
Champion Chuck Hulse brought his Pro
Formula Mazda to victory in the opening
rounds of the 2009 MOLECULE Formula
Mazda Challenge at a rain swept Infineon
Raceway this weekend to kick off the
championship’s first season as an officially
sanctioned NASA race group and the first weekend with Red Line Oil as an official
series sponsor. Defending Standard Formula Mazda class champion, Bill Weaver, would
start his 2009 campaign off on a winning note with a Valentine’s Day victory as well.
The unseasonably dry Northern California winter gave way to torrential downpours, with
the occasional sun burst, intensifying the drama that comes with the start of a new
season, as drivers were forced to come to grips with changing track conditions as they
shed the cobwebs of the offseason. Before the green flag even flew for Round One the
drivers had to answer one of racing’s most challenging questions – rain tires or slicks on
a wet track with sunny skies.
