A Letter from East Coast Region Head Bruce Lawrence:
Over the past couple of racing seasons The Speed Connection has been involved in creating a professional racing series for Formula Mazdas. To date there has been over fifty thousand in cash and prizes awarded. The series has bred some very close competition, and great car turnout.
We are announcing some changes for this year's series. We have been working together with three other regions across the United States to develop our own race weekends and a national championship.
We will enjoy many returning sponsors as well as some news ones; including Goodyear, Taylor Transmissions and Moses Smith Racing. The 2010 series will feature cash and contingency awards. Stay tuned for more updates on new rules, finalization of the schedule, and prize payout.
As usual we will be focusing on premier tracks mostly in the Southeast, and will meet at the June Sprints in Wisconsin where the Southeast will meet with the Midwest region for a special event.
Like last year we will again feature races with several different sanctioning bodies to provide our own race groups and true pro weekends. With that flexibility we were able to do something special; a grand prix style standing start exhibition race.
The Speed Connection Formula Car Challenge is a sponsored, prize money series of races run on ten weekends at the best racing venues in the eastern United States as part of SCCA, FARA, FRCCA or NASA events. The perfect step into serious formula car racing, at a rational cost with extraordinary returns. Some of the tracks we race at include:
Georgia: Road Atlanta
-
Virginia: Virginia International Raceway
-
Georgia: Roebling Road
-
Ohio: Mid Ohio Sports Car Course
-
West Virginia: Summit Point
-
Wisconsin: Road America
The Series is supported by such sponsors as Goodyear, Taylor Race Engineering, & Mazda. This enables the series to distribute cash and prizes each year to the series participants.
Points awarded as follows:
Points are awarded in the Series based on the finishing order of each race, counting only the Series Competitors starting each event. Series competitors need only take the green flag to earn series points. They are not required to finish the race (as done by SCCA).
